End some of the cruelest aspects of animal transport!

4,000,000 broiler chickens, 726,000 pigs, and 29,000 cattle die during transport every year in the United States.

According to Federal Laws and Regulations enforced by the USDA, livestock and other animals transported by land only have to be fed and watered once every 28 hours. This can be extended up to 36 hours by simply requesting so in writing with little to no explanation or proof required. This often results in deaths caused by fatigue, dehydration, and starvation.

In addition to depriving these animals of their basic nutritional needs, many animals die every year from heatstroke and frostbite due to modes of transportation that are not properly temperature-controlled. All of this is exacerbated by overcrowding. While there are regulations for the weather conditions in which livestock can be transported, these are seldom enforced. How often have you seen trucks with livestock traveling in extreme heat, rain, or cold? Stricter regulations around transportation temperatures need to be both addressed and enforced.

We at Project Animal Freedom propose that livestock be allowed food, water, and rest every 12 hours during transport with an extension up to 16 hours only with reasonable explanation in writing. We also propose that companies transporting livestock under dangerous weather conditions be fined and held accountable by the U.S. Department of Transportation and law enforcement at weigh stations and during routine traffic policing.

These changes to Federal Regulations are vital to the wellbeing of animals that undergo unspeakable suffering every day. Please sign and share this petition so that we might make a difference for these innocent creatures together.
