Our quarterly campaigns
January-March | Increasing the number of vegans across the Midwest
Every time we inspire someone to go vegan, we indirectly spare hundreds (and even thousands) of animals from a lifetime of suffering. Each additional vegan also tips the scales of justice in our favor, giving our movement even more momentum. These newfound vegans can also cause a ripple effect whereby they inspire other people to reduce and, in some cases, eliminate their animal product consumption altogether, further tipping the scales in favor of more-than-human animal rights. Particularly committed vegans might also begin volunteering with their local animal rights organization, donating to pro-animal charities, and recruiting friends, family members, and colleagues into the movement. Vegans, simply put, are our closest allies as animal advocates; they are the easiest to convince of the need for animal rights activism, and they are the most likely to engage in animal rights activism outside the small sect of us who already identify as hardcore animal rights activists.
April-June | Creating, mobilizing, and helping activists across the Midwest network
The task before us—building a fully vegan Midwest by 2056—is as daunting as it is inspiring. But to realize this goal, we must build a movement (and, soon enough, a movement of movements) to carry our collective struggle for human and more-than-human animal liberation to victory. As part of this quarterly campaign, we will therefore place especial emphasis on creating, empowering, and recruiting as many activists as possible. We firmly believe that everyone has something valuable to contribute to this movement, no matter how seemingly trivial; after all, small actions, when multiplied by millions of people, can change the world. We also recognize that while as few as 1 in 1,000 vegans are hardcore activists, millions of vegans have the potential to achieve extraordinary feats for the animals if only given the proper opportunities, guidance, and support.
July-September | Championing intersectionality within and beyond the animal rights movement
Racial justice, climate justice, and animal justice are all inextricably intertwined; none can be properly realized without the others. Embracing intersectionality in our advocacy efforts as animal rights activists is therefore not only the right thing to do, but also a vital necessity if our goal truly is to build a world where all animals live safe, happy, and free. If we were to abolish animal agriculture, for example, our activism would likely still be insufficient in preventing catastrophic climate change, complete ecological collapse, and the totality of environmental devastation wrought by other industries. We must therefore tackle entire systems of oppression if we are to be maximally effective at building a more compassionate world. We will also pressure fellow social justice advocates and advocacy organizations to embrace anti-speciesism as a meaningful component of their philosophy and practices. Consistent anti-oppression is the only way to consistently end oppression.
October-December | Inspiring large-scale generosity to benefit animals
The animal abuse industry is a trillion-dollar industry in the US alone. Meanwhile, abolitionist animal rights organizations only command an estimated $100 million per year. For every dollar we have to liberate our more-than-human animal compatriots the animal abuse industry has roughly $10,000 with which to abuse our more-than-human animal compatriots. If we are to topple the trillion-dollar animal abuse industry from its pedestal of tyranny, we must dramatically expand the resources available to our movement, both in the for-profit and nonprofit realm. At Project Animal Freedom, we are working to abridge the massive deficit between our dreams of animal paradise and the resources necessary to bring about such a paradise. We are working to radically increase the amount of financial resources not only accessible to our organization, but also to our movement as a whole. By economically empowering our chapters, we will funnel thousands (and one day millions) of dollars into local grassroots activism and capacity building, creating a self-sustaining, self-maximizing feedback loop primed for maximum impact.
The surest way to change nothing is to do nothing. The surest way to change everything is to do everything you can.
