St. Louis Climate Strike!

A sign at a climate justice march claiming that the wrong Amazon is burning

1-2 acres of Amazon rainforest are destroyed every second. Humanity has eradicated 68% of all wildlife since 1970. Species are disappearing at a rate 1,000-10,000x faster than the historical background extinction rate. 99% of coral reefs will die by 2100, and we could see mostly fishless oceans as early as 2048 if we don’t take drastic action, starting immediately.

The path to a carbon-neutral future that avoids catastrophic climate change is a precipitous cliff that assumes humanity will successfully reduce carbon emissions by at least 5% of 2021 emissions levels year after year for the next 20 years. But even if, after decades of failing to take sufficient action to merely level off global carbon emissions, we were to achieve this ambitious goal, there would still be a 50% chance of climate catastrophe.

As Greta Thunberg so stirringly declared during her iconoclastic UN speech in 2019, “a 50% risk is simply not acceptable to us—we who have to live with the consequences.” This is why we organize. This is why we mobilize. This is why we strike!

BUILD THE MOVEMENT!

We need to send a clear message that insufficient action on climate change is not only morally reprehensible, but also positively deadly. Please invite your friends, family members, and colleagues to join us at this event as we fight for a livable future for all life on Earth!

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:

Please wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose at all times during the event, and do your best to practice social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
