About

In 2019, CC’s Vegan Spot opened to the public as Alton, Illinois’ first 100%-vegan restaurant. This family-owned and operated restaurant offers a wide variety of veganized American classics, from their Illy Cheesesteak drenched in their house-made cheeze sauce to their flabbergastingly flavorful Jalapeño Poppers, the best we have yet tried. Not only does CC’s offer a variety of meals perfect for dinner or lunch, but they also feature a rotating weekly special. This week’s special? Their BBQ Brinjal Burger, which features roasted eggplant on a toasted bun with thinly sliced tomatoes, pickles, mayo, cheeze, sautéed onions, and mushrooms served with a heaping side of coleslaw.

Ever since CC’s opened on August 10th, 2019, I have adored gorging myself on their many delectable delights, from their refreshing icees and larger-than-life pretzels to their Ish Sandwiches and Illy Cheesesteaks. When my brother’s birthday rolled around last month, I could not resist the urge to purchase some food from CC’s, even though he wanted Mexican food for his birthday. My sister trekked to a Mexican restaurant we are fond of, and I trekked to CC’s.

As I made the drive to Alton, I could not stop thinking about the amazing special they had on sale: their Fried Mushroom, Jalapeño Poppers, Fried ChikN and Fries combo. I also purchased their Impossible Crunch Wrap and their Notcho Regular Nachos; their tantalizing aromas filled my car the whole ride home. Before I left, I had the opportunity to speak briefly with Trezel Brown, the founder and owner of CC’s. She revealed she had included a free steak and cheese taco with my order out of the goodness of her heart (when I finally devoured it, I concluded it was the best vegan taco I had ever eaten!)

Returning home, I ripped open the food containers and began indulging in the amazing vegan delights I had hauled home, all while resisting the temptation to eat them in the car on the way home instead. The fried chik’n had an excellent texture and was breaded to perfection; they tasted unbelievably good in combination with the small containers of condiment she included specially for this meal. The fried mushrooms were incredibly savory and satiating; just two strips was enough to satisfy my cravings, allowing me to share the rest with my family. But the jalapeño poppers? They oozed with the best vegan cheddar cheese I have ever had, and the breading and the delightful flavor imparted by the pickled jalapeños made it food worthy of the vegan gods.

After savoring all the mind-blowing flavors in the food I bought from CC’s, I decided to eat the enchiladas I had ordered from our family’s favorite Mexican restaurant. While I enjoyed the portobello mushroom enchiladas included in my order, I only finished half the meal, deciding I liked CC’s even better. I began cramming my mouth with even more culinary delights from CC’s, this time chowing down on their Impossible Crunch Wrap; of all the Mexican food we ate that evening, CC’s Impossible Crunch Wrap was the single tastiest dish of all! My entire family relished the food I bought from CC’s, so much so, they forgave me for what initially seemed like a nonsensical trip to CC’s given we had already ordered food from elsewhere.

If you have not yet experienced the eye-popping flavors CC’s brings to life in their spectacular eats and treats, what are you waiting for? Their food is worth the drive several times over! What are you waiting for?
