Candles of Compassion: A Vegan Halloween Vigil

  • Peace Love Coffee/Vegan Deli & Butcher 524 South Main Street Saint Charles, MO, 63301 United States (map)

Join us this October 30th as we eat with empathy at the Peace Love Coffee/Vegan Deli & Butcher along the historic waterfront in downtown St. Charles, raise roses of respect, and carry candles of compassion to commemorate the trillions upon trillions of innocent creatures who continue to suffer and die needlessly each and every year. This is the perfect opportunity to not only remember the “ghosts in the machine” of the modern animal abuse industry, but also to honor loved ones, including fellow cats, dogs, and other nonhuman animals, who have since departed from this life. At this celebration of life, we welcome you to share your heartfelt stories of loved ones who have departed from this mortal plane over the past year or so. Please join us as we honor their legacies, alongside the rights, lives, and wellbeing of all nonhuman animals our society continues to denigrate rather than respect, to destroy rather than protect, to deny rather than accept.

PLAN OF ACTION:

From 6-7 p.m., we will dine at the Bike Stop Cafe along the historic waterfront in downtown St. Charles, which features a beautiful strip of buildings, some over 250 years old, with an almost Hogwartsian, Godric’s Hollow-like feel. Along these cobbled streets, gently slouching roofs, and spooky Halloween spectaculars, we will march with mercy, sing with sorrow, and rejoice with reverence for all the fallen souls for whom we march. Once we reach the waterfront, we will hold a small candlelight vigil, commemorating all those who have suffered and died needlessly or died before their time. We will them symbolically release their ashes into the Missouri River, that dignity may find these souls in death, that life may come from life, all while humming “The Ashes of Speciesism,” a paean for the ages to remember that these individuals will not be forgotten, that they will not suffer and die in vain. At 9 p.m., we will disperse, the seeds of life now replanted.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:

Please wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose at all times during the event, and do your best to practice social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
